The enigmatic expedition leader of the Italia, Umberto Nobile, will be played by Daniel Caltagirone. The British actor has enjoyed success in prominent roles by renowned directors such as Danny Boyle in THE BEACH, Guy Ritchie in LOCK STOCK, and Roman Polanski in the Oscarwinning THE PIANIST opposite Adrien Brody. He has also starred in internationally acclaimed shows such as Friends and THE TUDORS, and will soon be seen as one of the leads alongside Dustin Hoffman in the eight-episode TV drama KINGDOM OF GOLD.

The German actor already has an impressive filmography, having started his acting career at the age of 12. In 2007, he was cast as lead actor Michael Berg in Stephen Daldry’s Oscar-winning THE READER opposite Kate Winslet, a role for which he was able to add a European Film Award nomination to the long list of awards and nominations he has accumulated despite his young years.
